Appeal Requests for End of Year Closing Charges
Students charged an end-of-year closing charge for their residence may submit an appeal request if they elected to use the CA check-out method and if there is good reasoning to make the request. Appeal requests for end-of-year closing residential charges must be submitted by June 25, 2012, and information on this process is outlined below; requests submitted after this date will not be considered. Normally, students who elected to check out with the Express method waived their right to appeal, however, this is being waived for the fall closing process as there are no CA check-out options available. Anyone assessed any damage charges will be able to appeal the charges.
Review the information at http://www.kenyon.edu/closing, which was e-mailed to each student multiple times, provided in a paper booklet, discussed at a hall meeting by each Community Advisor, and e-mailed to all parents/family members for whom the College had e-mail addresses.
As stated on page eleven of the Kenyon College Student Handbook and in the College's Housing Contract, all residents are responsible for any and all damages to their room/common area or any loss of property such as furniture, keys, etc., and any other charges related to their housing. Please note that if a student shared his/her living space with others, all residents were charged for damages and other charges that were not individual-specific. All residents are responsible for common or shared spaces, thus, in those cases, all are charged regardless of specific individual contribution to the damages. If an apartment-mate or a roommate is taking responsibility for a charge (thus saving other residents from being charged), he or she will need to e-mail reslife@kenyon.edu from their Kenyon e-mail account to indicate they take responsibility for the charge. Once this is received and processed, the student account for non-responsible roommates/apartment-mates will be credited.

Within THIRTY days of a request or submitted question, the student requestor will be e-mailed a response/decision. Please do not e-mail or call the office regarding your appeal request or question unless you have waited over thirty days after submitting the Google Form and have not received a response.
