Studio Art Scholarship

Eligibility

The competition is open to high school seniors who meet the criteria for admission to Kenyon College and who wish to pursue studio art in their four-year college experience. Those wanting to be considered for studio art scholarships must submit their application by December 15. Students are not required to major in studio art, but will be expected to take studio art courses each year, and scholarship recipients are encouraged to major or minor in studio art. Each scholarship ranges up to $12,000 per year and is renewable for four years as long as the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Subsequent interviews will not be necessary to renew the scholarship. All first-year applicants are eligible, including Early Decisiion applicants. Transfer students are not eligible.

How to Apply

Studio art scholarships are determined on a competitive basis and require the following:

  • a completed application for a studio art scholarship.
  • a portfolio uploaded onto your Kenyon E-admissions account. (After you submit your Common Application, within a few days you'll be provided with your login information to upload your portfolio).

Finalists will also meet with studio art faculty for an on-campus interview in Feburary. Judges will select up to three scholarship winners each year.

Scholarship Awards

Studio art scholarships range up to $12,000 per year and are renewable for four years as long as the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher, and based on continued participation in studio art courses and faculty recommendation.

Dates to Remember

Round 1: December 15, 2012, Preliminary Round Materials Due

Portfolio, application, and recommendation letter must be submitted the Office of Admissions by December 15, 2012. NOTE: Students must complete both the art scholarship application and Kenyon's admissions application in order to be considered.

By mid-November, you will be able to upload your art portfolio to your Kenyon online application.

January Notification of Finalists

Finalists will be notified in late January and will have three days to notify the College if they wish to advance to the final round. We will select up to eight finalists for the final round.

February 17-18, 2013 Final Round

Finalists will participate in an interview with the Kenyon College studio art faculty. This interview is not open to the public.

Finalists must bring five to ten examples of artwork they have made and be prepared to discuss the work with several members of the studio art faculty during an interview.

Kenyon College will provide airfare for students who must fly to campus for the final round.

About the Portfolio

The portfolio should include ten images of your artwork, uploaded to your Kenyon online applicaiton. There are step by step instructions on how to upload your work. Portfolio artwork may include drawing, painting, photography, digital imagery, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture and installation.
