Advanced Placement & Other Credits

Kenyon credit may be awarded to students who have received scores of 4 or higher (depending on the test and department) on Advanced Placement (AP) tests. Secondary schools offer AP examinations in May.

AP credit cannot be used to fulfill distribution or residency requirements. Please visit the Registrar's Office web page to read more about credits awarded and placement recommendations based upon results of AP exams.

Admitted applicants who have taken college courses while in high school may receive credit for them at Kenyon. Transcripts must be sent directly to the registrar for evaluation. Such credit cannot be used to fulfill residency requirements.

Credit may be awarded to students who earn scores of 6 or 7 on International Baccalaureate higher-level examinations . Upon receipt of an IB official transcript, the College's registrar determines the amount of credit awarded. Individual departments then decide upon appropriate course placements.

International Baccalaureate credit, like Advanced Placement credit, cannot be used to fulfill distribution or residency requirements. Visit the Registrar's Office web page to learn more about credits awarded for the IB program.

There is a limit of three Kenyon units of credit for any combination of the above mentioned credits. (AP, IB, or pre-Kenyon credit).
