High school seniors who meet the criteria for admission to Kenyon College are welcome to submit applications for this competition. Those wanting to be considered for the Kenyon Writing Award must submit their application by January 15. Students are not required to major in English or take Creative Writing courses. Each scholarship ranges up to $15,000 per year and is renewable for four years as long as the student maintains an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. All first-year applicants are eligible, including Early Decision applicants. Transfer students are not eligible. Winners of the Kenyon Writing Award will be notified in their acceptance packet.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must complete both the Common Application and a Kenyon Writing Award application. After you submit your Common Application, within days you will receive log-in information for your Kenyon E-admissions account to upload your portfolio material.
This material should be limited to five pages. Applicants are encouraged to select works that demonstrate their highest level of technical skill and overall writing ability. Each year, judges will select up to three winners as well as alternates. In the event that a student does not accept the scholarship, one of the alternates will be selected. All judges’ decisions are final.
