Services for Guests with Accessibility Considerations
Kenyon College is a beautiful historic campus which sits on a hill. The campus was designed primarily as a walking campus. The main thoroughfare is a gravel surfaced pathway known as Middle Path which connects the residential buildings on the north end of campus to the south academic buildings. Middle Path passes through the village of Gambier where the Post Office, Village Market, restaurants and businesses are located.
The Office of Disability Services and the Campus Safety Office are located on either side of the Post Office. There is a HC parking space directly in front of the Old Bank Building where the Office of Disability Services is located. The entrance to the ODS is at the back of the building. HC parking is also located south of the Post Office on Scott Lane which is opposite the Campus Safety Office. Visitors can pick up a campus map at either location.
Accessible/handicapped parking - A state-issued handicapped parking permit suffices for parking in designated accessible spaces on campus. Guests who wish to use the handicap accessible parking spots can pick up a handicap parking placard, available at the Campus Safety Office. Please consult the Kenyon Campus Map for accessible parking and routes.
Wheelchair loans - We sometimes get requests for loaner chairs, often on behalf of people who don't use wheelchairs on a regular basis but who face difficulty walking. Kenyon has a few loaner manual wheelchairs for use by visitors along these lines as needed. The chairs can be obtained through the Office of Disability Services. Wheelchairs needed for longer periods of time can be rented from Mount Vernon Service Medical (740-393-0202) or Foster's Pharmacy (740-392-0911).
Club Cars and transport assistance: Club cars are available by contacting the Office of Disability Services at (740) 427-5453. Users are required to drive on college paths only. Carts are not permitted on public roads for personal safety reasons. Please follow the routes of travel on the club car map that will be provided.
Accessible public restrooms - Accessible restrooms are marked on the campus facility access map. Look for signs at Convocation and Commencement events identifying accessible restroom facilities or locate an usher for assistance.
Auxiliary Aids and Services: Assistive listening devices, ASL interpreting, remote CART (captioning services) and large print materials are available upon request.
Please contact the Office of Disability at 740-427-5453 to request assistance with auxiliary aids and services.
